This elegant 15th century villa is just above Carmignano (alt.
300 meters), an ancient village in the hills, 6 miles west of Florence. The village
is famous for two splendid Medicean villas that are national monuments. This is
a highly desirable area for touring in Tuscany because of its central location
and proximity to Florence. Shops are one mile away in Carmignano. There is an
18-hole golf course designed by Arnold Palmer just ten minutes' drive from the
villa, and a second, smaller course is also located nearby in Montelupo, famous
for its pottery and home to one of Italy's most important pottery museums.
The
road from the town to the villa is narrow and winding, so we do not recommend
renting a van. The villa offers magnificent views in every direction; it is even
possible to see Il Duomo (the cathedral in Florence) from the garden and pool.
Vista Firenze is enclosed by a wall with a large park of ancient trees (cypress,
pines, laurels) on top of a hill with three acres of land with olive trees. A
fine extra virgin olive oil is produced on the estate.
The
villa sleeps six people very comfortably in three bedrooms, one with twin beds
and two each with large matrimoniale beds (approx. the size of a queen-sized bed).
There are two bathrooms (one with shower and one with tub), a large living room
with original paintings and another living room with satellite TV (motorized dish),
VCR, stereo and fax. The rooms are painted with pleasing frescoes and furnished
with beautiful antiques. The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave,
professional slicing machine, American coffee machine, electric orange juicer
and an original fireplace. There are four TV's in all and a clothes washer. The
garden area is about 1700 sq. meters with a beautiful "endless" swimming pool
(open May 27-October 7). The son of the owner, who lives
on the estate, will welcome you when you arrive. He is a professional guide and
can organize horseback riding excursions in the Tuscan countryside. The owner
is a "geocacher" and is willing to help guests learn about this adventure
game for GPS users, which involves setting caches all over the world and sharing
their locations on the Internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates
to find the caches. Because of the costly antiques and artworks,
no smoking is allowed in this villa and children are not permitted.
