Live royally
while discovering the delights of northern Lazio and southern Umbria. Villa Castello, 18 miles from Orvieto and 10 miles from Viterbo, is located in an area rich with attractions.
Viterbo is worth a visit for its fine medieval squares and picturesque pedestrian
quarter around Via San Pellegrino, while the surrounding countryside yields such
treasures as the Villa Lante, known for its Renaissance gardens, which rivla any in Europe.
The nature preserve at nearby Lago di Vico will appeal to
lovers of nature; and children won't want to miss the fantasic, moss-covered creatures of stone at the Parco dei Mostri (monster
park) at Bomarzo.
Drive north to Umbria to see the stunning Gothic Duomo and to sample the delightful white wines of Orvieto, and the dramatic hillside villages of Todi, Spoleto, Assisi and Perugia. Cortona, Arezzo, and Siena in southeastern Tuscany are within daytrip distance. Florence is 100 miles north, and Rome is 60 miles south.
The villa occupies
the piano nobile of a huge castle built in 1589. It is elegant, with 18th
century-style "cassettoni" ceilings and beautifully painted walls. The spacious living room features a marble fireplace and offers views over both
the countryside and the square. The dining room opens onto a balcony
with splendid views. There are three double bedrooms (two with en suite bathrooms; one
with shower and bath, one with shower only), as well as two twin bedrooms (one
with en suite bathroom with shower).
In this part
of the castello you will also find a second sitting room, a fully equipped kitchen and
an additional bathroom. Every room is sumptuously furnished with great care and
taste. The villa is centrally heated and air conditioned and is provided with
satellite TV, VCR, stereo and telephone.
The tennis court and swimming pool (49 ft. x 23 ft.) are set in a serene private garden partially surrounded by antique stone walls. Neaby is an outdoor dining area with BBQ.
