In Abruzzo, it is possible to experience an age-old Italian lifestyle that has not changed for centuries. Although it is mostly a mountainous region, Abruzzo also has vast stretches of sandy beaches along its eastern border. To the west are hills that rise into the Abruzzo mountains, dotted with some of Italy’s least visited hill towns. The Abruzzo National Park is one of the most important in Europe; the Calderone, Europe’s southernmost glacier, lies at the foot of Italy’s tallest peak, the Gran Sasso.
Casa del Vomano is a recently renovated house on the main street in the historic center of Montorio al Vomano, in the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. Montorio is a small town, but you will find shops and restaurants here, and in the main square, you can catch a bus to Rome (2.5 hrs) or to the beach town of Giulianova (45 min.) The closest airport is at Pescara, with new direct service from JFK starting in April, 2007.
Nearby are mountains (Prati di Tivo, Petracamela, Campo Imperatore) and the seaside (Giulianova, Roseto), and Casetta del Frantoio is conveniently located just 15 kilometers from the A14 and A25 motorways. Visit Teramo (15 min.), Civitella del Tronto and the famous Castelli, known for its ceramics. The sanctuary of San Gabriele is just 10 kilometers away.
The house is comprised of:
- Spacious living/dining room
- Fully equipped kitchen with microwave
- 1 double bedroom with queen bed
- 2 double bedrooms with twin beds
- 2 bathrooms
- Car park 200 meters from the house
- Terrace overlooking the river
The views are stunning! The house faces and overlooks the Vomano River, bordered by a lovely walking path. In the distance, you can see the Abruzzo hills, and beyond, the Gran Sasso mountain range. Outdoors is a large garden, which is shared with guests at Casetta del Frantoio. The two houses may be rented together to sleep up to 11 guests.
