History comes to life in Provence, where the weather is said to be the best
in France. Visit ancient castles and explore villages whose roots go back thousands
of years. See the landscapes painted by Van Gogh and Cézanne. Enjoy the world-renowned
treasures of Provence: Avignon and the Pope's Palace, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and
les Baux, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with its famous antiques market, the Luberon and
its typical Provence villages, and the Camargue and its beaches, less than an
hour away — all are within easy driving distance.
Château
Saint-Pierre is a 7,000 sq foot villa on 5 acres of private property which is is a five-minute drive from the center of Avignon. Built during the
14th Century, it once served as a chateau for bishops awaiting audience with the
popes of Avignon. Tastefully restored during the 19th century, the Château was
returned to its original splendor, but with modern conveniences added. Château
Saint-Pierre is a gracious and comfortable base from which to tour Provence
elegant without being the least bit pretentious.
On the ground floor
of the Château is a spacious living room with a fireplace and plenty of comfortable
seating. Off the living room are a library corner with computer and high speed Internet access, as well as a spacious double bedroom with en-suite bath. A separate
dining room leads to a covered outdoor dining area and beyond, a large open patio.
The large kitchen is well equipped, with a dishwasher and microwave. There is
also a powder room on this level.
Upstairs is a comfortable sitting
room and nine bedrooms, each with its own en suite bath. All of the bedrooms are
decorated with an understated elegance. The master bedroom, with its canopy bed,
opens onto a large balcony overlooking the gardens. It also contains a separate
single bedroom, making this suite ideal for a couple with a child. The other
double bedrooms are decorated in typcial Provence style, color, and charm. One bedroom is smaller than the others, so if 20 people are renting, they will not all have equal space. No
smoking is permitted in the bedrooms.
Return from a day of exploring
to enjoy the beautiful gardens and grounds (6 acres, 2.5 of which constitue the gardens), or relax by the pool (14 x 7 meters,
with outdoor shower) or watch the goldfish swim among the water lilies in the
lovely pond on the terrace. Take a rest in the shade of the covered terrace, an
inviting spot for al fresco dining.
